Me & My Community - Student Maps

 In my last post I talked about how I revamped my city unit and the results were fantastic. Not that my students haven't created awesome maps in the past but this time they did it with sustainability in mind AND they were able to write thoughtful and detailed descriptions of the neighborhoods they had designed. Here are some of my favorites...

This one not only is very nicely drawn, it has amazing and clever details. My favorite is of course the temple to Juan our class mascot. 

This one is great because they were very cognizant of adding sustainable elements so you'll see a park with recycling and solar panels on the house. 

This is another one with lots of sustainability elements. The shine from the lamination kind of blocks it but they have a really nice plaza in the middle with green space, as well as a recycling plant, and windmills. 

What was great about this project was the students' target language usage. They were able to write really nice descriptions of their neighborhoods and while their conversations were not 100% target language, they used much more Spanish in their planning with their partners than they did last year. It also sets them up to be able to give directions in our travel unit.
